An Unexpected Way To Cause Leukemia

Researchers have now used genetic engineering to introduce a mutation found in human leukemia patients into mice.

In Cancer Cell they report that the mutation causes leukemia by triggering innate genetic programs that allow white blood cells to proliferate uncontrollably.

The findings have implications for the way leukemia should be treated.
