UCSB researchers develop cross-protective vaccine

(University of California - Santa Barbara) Doctors have always hoped that scientists might one day create a vaccination that would treat a broad spectrum of maladies. They could only imagine that there might be one vaccine that would protect against, say, 2,500 strains of Salmonella. And what if that same vaccine could help protect the elderly?

Pneumococcal Vaccine Associated With 50 Percent Lower Risk Of He...

Pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccination was associated with a 50 percent lower risk of heart attacks two years after vaccination, suggests a large hospital-based case-control study.

Novel Ways To Boost Vaccination Or Natural Defenses

Our bodies rely on the production of potent, or 'high affinity,' antibodies to fight infection. The process is very complex, yet scientists have discovered that it hinges on a single molecule, a growth factor, without which it cannot function.

New technology for boosting vaccine efficiency

(Cure Lab, Inc.) One of the most pressing biomedical issues is the development of techniques that increase the efficiency of vaccines. In a paper published on April 24, 2008 in the journal Vaccine, a Massachusetts biotechnology company, Cure Lab, Inc. has proposed a new technology for anti-viral and potentially anti-cancer vaccination. Cure Lab demonstrates that deriving a vaccine antigen in two forms and then applying these two forms in combination elicits a much stronger immune response.
