NASA astronauts on space shuttle Endeavour's STS-126 mission will install an instrument on the International Space Station that can "smell" dangerous chemicals in the air.

The two NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station joined millions of Americans Monday in casting their ballots before Election Day.

Students will chat with NASA's Expedition 17 astronauts aboard the International Space Station from 11:15 a.m. to 11:35 a.m.

NASA astronauts will need power sources when they return to the moon and establish a lunar outpost. NASA engineers are exploring the possibility of nuclear fission to provide the necessary power and taking initial steps toward a non-nuclear technology demonstration of this type of system.

During the dawn in space history, Dee O’Hara was the nurse to the first seven Mercury astronauts and continued on with the astronauts in the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs.

“I’m more aware of the historical significance now then I was at the time. At the time, I was just doing my job,” said O’Hara.

Currently, she works at Ames in the Medical Services Office as a Technical Assistant to Dr. Pelligra, the Medical Services Officer at Ames.
