Oxygen ions for fuel cells get loose at low(er) temperatures

EurekAlert! - Chemistry, Physics and Materials Sciences  Wed, 06/25/2008 - 22:00

(National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)) Seeking to understand a new fuel cell material, a research team has uncovered a novel structure that moves oxygen ions through the cell at substantially lower temperatures than previously thought possible.

Bone Repair Using Patient's Stem Cells Comes Closer

ScienceDaily  Tue, 05/27/2008 - 21:00

Enzyme induces adult stem cells to grow bone. Until now it has been difficult to induce adult human stem cells to produce bone, e.g. in order to repair bone tissue.

Researchers have just shown that if the enzyme PKA is previously activated in the stem cells in the lab, following implantation this results in substantial bone formation.

This opens up new ways of repairing bone tissue using cell material from the patient.
