First Direct Proof Of How Osteoarthritis Destroys Cartilage

ScienceDaily  Tue, 09/02/2008 - 22:15

A team of orthopaedic researchers has found definitive, genetic proof of how the most common form of arthritis destroys joint cartilage in nearly 21 million aging Americans, according to a study in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

The findings serve as an important foundation for the design of new treatments for osteoarthritis, researchers said.

Cell Removal Technique Could Lead To Cheaper Drugs

ScienceDaily  Tue, 08/26/2008 - 21:30

Costly drugs to treat conditions such as cancer and arthritis could be manufactured more cheaply with a new technique.

Researchers have pioneered a simple way to remove dead cells from cell cultures used to make protein-based drugs, which are increasingly prescribed to treat a range of illnesses.

New Rheumatoid Arthritis Drugs Work Better Than Standard Anti-in...

ScienceDaily  Wed, 04/16/2008 - 23:00

The latest class of drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis are better than standard anti-inflammatories, according to a new study.

Analysis of the combined results of thirteen trials showed that anti-TNF± drugs, given at recommended doses, were better than the usual treatments, such as methotrexate, for treating RA.

Patients who had previously seen little benefit from methotrexate alone showed a better response with combined anti-TNF± plus methotrexate therapy.
