Best Treatment For Multiple Sclerosis May Depend On Disease Subt...

ScienceDaily  Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:00

In animal studies, scientists discover different inflammatory pathways at work. Relatively new drugs now help some patients, but not others, with the most common form of multiple sclerosis.

If the differences are found in people, future treatments may be tailored to specific subtypes of the disease.

Stroke: Tsunami In The Human Brain

ScienceDaily  Thu, 06/12/2008 - 19:15

After a stroke, even unaffected areas of the brain are at risk -- depolarization waves arise at the edges of the dead tissue and spread through the adjacent areas of the brain.

If these waves are repeated, more cells die. This has previously been observed only in animal studies.

New Way To Fight Cancer: Protect Healthy Cells With The Silver S...

ScienceDaily  Tue, 04/01/2008 - 10:00

A unique study proposes a new paradigm in cancer treatment: instead of selectively attacking cancer cells, protect all the healthy cells.

Animal studies and in vitro human cell studies show that a short fast protects healthy cells against chemotherapy, while tumor cells remain sensitive to the drugs.
